Modifying Existing Manufacturing Processes

INSTRUCTION TYPE: Exploration INSTRUCTION TITLE: Modifying Existing Manufacturing Processes CATEGORY: Structural Detailing OBJECTIVE: Learn how to edit and refine manufacturing processes applied to timber elements

PREREQUISITES:

  • Understanding Object Processes and Fabrication Information

  • Basic knowledge of timber joinery terminology

  • Familiarity with 3D positioning concepts

EXPERTISE LEVEL: Intermediate

PARAMETERS:

  • Process Properties: Position, dimensions, and orientation of manufacturing operations

  • Reference Systems: How positions are measured relative to beam faces or edges

STEPS:

  1. Open a project containing timber elements with applied processes

  2. Select a timber element in your model

  3. Access the Single Beam Information dialog as learned previously

  4. Review the list of processes currently applied to the selected beam

  5. Identify a process you wish to modify and select it in the list

  6. Click the "Edit" button to open the properties dialog for this specific process

  7. Examine the various parameters available for adjustment:

    • Position coordinates (X, Y, Z) relative to beam reference system

    • Dimensional parameters (width, depth, diameter, etc.)

    • Orientation angles

  8. Make a small adjustment to one parameter to understand its effect

  9. Save your changes by clicking OK or Apply

  10. Observe how the modified process appears in the 3D view

EXPECTED RESULTS: The selected manufacturing process should update according to your modifications, with changes visible in both the process list and the 3D model.

COMMON VARIATIONS:

  • Different process types (cuts, drilling, notches) will have different editable parameters

  • Some automated processes may have limited parameters available for modification

TROUBLESHOOTING:

  • If changes don't appear in 3D view: Try refreshing the view or toggling visibility

  • If parameter limits prevent desired changes: Check for geometric constraints or rule-based limitations

FOLLOW-UP ACTIONS:

  • Learn to add new processes from scratch

  • Understand how changes affect construction feasibility

  • Explore exporting modified processes to manufacturing formats

QUERY EXAMPLES: "How do I make a drill hole deeper?", "Can I change the angle of a cut?", "How do I adjust the position of a notch?"
