Settings - Save
Generally
Using the 'Save Settings' icon, you can save the current setting in a dialog box with a name of your choice. Clicking the icon opens a dialog box where you can enter the setting name. If you previously selected a setting that you perhaps only wanted to change, the old name will automatically appear in the dialog box. If you simply want to overwrite the old setting, you don't need to enter anything else; close the dialog box with 'OK'. If, however, you want to save the changed setting with a new name, overwrite the default name and then exit with 'OK'.
Click 'Cancel' to close the dialog box without saving the setting.
Reduce dialog box
In some dialog boxes, the option 'Reduce dialog box' is available when saving the settings.
This option is useful when you have a function with a lot of settings, some of which you don't actually need. An example here is the tenon, which offers many options that are needed in some countries but would never interest a German carpenter. In such a case, it's a good idea to save a few default settings and disable the fields you never need, thus reducing the number of dialog boxes that appear later.
The 'Reduce Dialog Box' button saves the current settings, just like the 'Ok' button, and you can also reduce the dialog box.
As soon as you click the 'Collapse Dialog Box' button, you'll be redisplayed with the main dialog box whose settings you want to save. However, all fields are now highlighted in blue or red.
The red fields will no longer be visible later when you use the setting. The blue fields, however, will remain displayed as usual. By clicking on a field, you can toggle its status (from red to blue and vice versa). You can do this as often as you like.
If the dialog box also has buttons below the settings fields that allow you to switch to other areas of the dialog box, you can also select these and toggle the fields on or off there. If you turn all the fields in a dialog box section red (i.e., off), the corresponding button will no longer be displayed later. For example, if you turn off all the fields in the 'Holes' section when reducing the tenon settings, the 'Hole' button will no longer be displayed later. However, this only applies to the saved setting that was reduced in this way. All other settings will continue to display this button.
Once you're finished reducing the fields, close the dialog box with 'OK'. The settings will then be saved.
Cancel reduction
The 'Remove Collapse' icon allows you to remove an existing collapse and make all settings visible. If you have a collapsed setting open in a dialog box, the hidden options will still be taken into account. This is usually fine, as these invisible options are irrelevant to the current setting. Sometimes, however, you want to know which hidden options are hidden behind them. In such a case, you can make these options visible with a single click.
