Manage Settings - Data Exchange

Data exchange

The 'Data Exchange' function allows you to export or import individual settings. This is useful if you want to save settings, share them with a colleague, import them from another version, or send them to a friend. With this data exchange, you can not only export or import all settings at once, but also select each individual setting and import or export only those settings.

To exchange data, select the 'Data Exchange' button in the management dialog box for the respective function. A two-part dialog box will then open.

On both sides of the dialog box you will find a list or a tree (if you have groups in the settings), below a few buttons and below that the comments and images of the selected setting.

On the left side of the dialog box, you'll always see the settings currently available in the program for the currently running function. On the right side, you'll see the settings stored somewhere outside the program. When you start the data exchange for the selected function for the first time, the right side is empty.

Above the list (tree) on the right side, there's an input field with an icon at the right end. This icon lets you select the directory to which you want to export or import settings. Clicking this icon brings up another dialog box that helps you select the directory.

At the bottom of the dialog box, you'll find the standard directory tree, from which you can select any directory. Above it, there are four large buttons that allow you to set four different default directories at the touch of a button. A button below the tree also allows you to create a new directory. Once you've selected the desired directory, you can confirm your selection by clicking the "Apply" button.

The settings are saved in files with names consisting of letters and numbers. However, you don't need to know the file names. The program knows which function initiated the data exchange (e.g., the pin input) and then only creates the appropriate files. If you want to export, you don't have to select a directory containing such a file; you can choose any empty directory. The program then creates a new settings file there.

Once you've set the correct path in the data exchange dialog box on the right, you can copy the data. To do this, select all or individual files on the left or right. You can select individual files as usual in Windows by holding down the Ctrl or Shift key. Using the icons between the lists, you can copy the selected settings from left to right or vice versa. You can also delete settings immediately using the button below the lists.

Emailanhang

The 'Email attachment' is a special form of export. The button for this option is available under both lists. The program automatically packs all settings selected on the respective page into a file and creates an email in the program configured as the computer's default email client. The packed file is attached to this email, and a text is inserted into the email explaining how to import the settings from there into the program:

To transfer the data, please proceed as follows:

1. Save the attachment of this message to your desktop.

2. In Dietrich's program, call up the dialog for which the settings are intended.

3. Use the second button next to the setting to access the settings management.

Now all you have to do is enter the email address and expand the text accordingly so the recipient knows who the email is from and which function the settings originate from (e.g., the pin function). If the recipient then follows the information in the email, they can easily import the settings into their program with the program's support, without overwriting their own settings.
