Ridge and Valley Area

When entering the structural framing for the ridge-valley area, you input the ridge and valley rafters or valley purlins. If the current dormer contains no ridge lines, the corresponding section of the dialog box is disabled.

With the selection list at the top of the dialog box you can choose existing settings. Using the disk icon you can save the current setting under the same name or a new name. Via the management icon you can create new settings, also by adopting existing settings, or modify or delete existing settings. See 'Save settings' in the 'General Help' manual.

The input is designed to be straightforward: select a setting from the standard ridge or valley rafter input. If no settings exist yet, you may create them from here. Click the selection list and choose the option 'New Setting'. The standard ridge or valley rafter input will open, enter your values and save the setting under the desired name.

For valley rafters or valley purlins there is an additional option to shorten these members automatically. To do so, select the edge in the drop-down list up to which the member should be shortened. Shortened valley rafters/valleys will receive a plumb cut automatically parallel to the line to which they were shortened.

There is a further special case for the shed dormer and the trapezoidal dormer. Here you can enter a shed-dormer purlin that is placed between the shed dormer and the main roof surface. Use the selection list to choose an inclined purlin or enter it via the option 'New Setting'. Purlin settings for non-inclined purlins are not displayed here at all, since they would make no sense. Using position and spacing you can place the shed-dormer purlin relative to the main roof surface. The purlin relates to the shed roof surface via its own settings.
