Dormer Ridge and Corner Posts
The "ridge and corner posts" function allows the ridge post and the corner posts of the dormer to be entered.
The ridge post is normally located between the ridge purlin and the upper window rail. However, there are situations in which the ridge post is continued further down and terminates on the breast rail or even the sill beam. In any case, the upper end of the ridge post always connects to the ridge purlin.
The corner posts terminate with their upper end at the upper window rail or at the "dormer sill purlins".
For the shed dormer and the trapezoidal dormer the ridge post is omitted, therefore the fields are deactivated for these dormer types.
With the selection list at the top of the dialog box you can choose existing settings. Using the disk icon you can save the current setting under the same name or a new name. Via the management icon you can create new settings, also by adopting existing settings, or modify or delete existing settings. See 'Save settings' in the 'General Help' manual.
Ridge post

The ridge post is entered directly in this dialog box. First, select the material and the dimension of the post. If it should not be created, enter the cross-section as 0.000.
Next, determine the connection at the upper and lower ends of the post. A butt section and tenon settings are available here.
The ridge post can be offset relative to the upper window rail. The options available are "flush front", "flush back", "centered" and "value". Using "value" allows the ridge post to be shifted from the centered position relative to the window rail. A positive value shifts the ridge post backward and a negative value shifts it forward.
With the final setting you determine where the lower end of the ridge post should be connected. This can be on the upper window rail, on the breast rail or on the sill beam. Entering a value also permits any other arbitrary height.
Corner posts

The corner posts are entered directly in this dialog box. First, select the material and the dimensions of the posts. If they should not be created, enter the cross-section as 0.000.
Next, determine the connection at the upper and lower ends of the posts. A butt section, tenon settings and the lapped joint via the T-joint end plate settings are available here.
Analogous to the offset of the ridge post relative to the window rail, an offset to the sill purlin can be entered for the corner posts. The options "flush front", "flush back", "centered" and "value" are also available here. The same applies to the axis offset relative to the window rail. This allows the corner post to be shifted arbitrarily in both directions.
With the final setting you determine where the lower ends of the corner posts should be connected. This can be on the breast rail or on the sill beam. Additionally, the corner posts can be automatically connected to the top of the adjacent rafters. Entering a value here also allows any other arbitrary height.
