Dormer Rafters

The rafter input generates the rafters on the various roof surfaces of the dormers. A distinction is made here between fixed rafters, dividing rafters and hip rafters.

With the selection list at the top of the dialog box you can choose existing settings. Using the disk icon you can save the current setting under the same name or a new name. Via the management icon you can create new settings, also by adopting existing settings, or modify or delete existing settings. See 'Save settings' in the 'General Help' manual.

Fixed rafters

The 'Fixed Rafters' sub-dialog allows entry of different types of fixed rafters. Using the toggle at the edge of the inputs you can switch from one fixed rafter to the next. This allows you to define any number of fixed rafters. The two numbers on the toggle indicate how many fixed rafters exist in total and which fixed rafter is currently displayed. The first number always indicates the number of the current fixed rafter and the second number indicates the total number of defined fixed rafters.

For each fixed rafter you can first specify the type and, depending on the type, the spacing is measured differently.

After the fixed rafter type you select the rafter setting in which the rafter is defined. These are the same rafter settings that are also used and stored in the normal roof structure input. Using the edit icon at the right edge of the field you can review and modify the values of the rafter setting.

Partition rafters

The 'Dividing Rafters' sub-dialog allows you to divide the roof surfaces with rafters, separated by veranda area and interior area. Fixed rafters are considered as separating rafters for the individual fields if this has been set for the fixed rafter. This setting can be found in the rafter setting itself.

Using the 'Start Spacing' and 'End Spacing' you can place the first and last rafter at a fixed distance from the field boundaries (bargeboard, eaves intersection point or fixed rafter). The remaining rafters are distributed in between. The distribution can be done either by a fixed bundle dimension, a free bundle dimension or the number of members. With a fixed bundle dimension the rafters are generated exactly with the entered spacing. Any resulting remainder is inserted either into the first field (start), the last field (end) or evenly into both fields (distribute). With the free bundle dimension the rafters are generated with equal spacing such that the entered maximum spacing between rafters is not exceeded. When entering the number of rafters, equal spacings between the rafters are also generated automatically.

There is also a toggle at the top edge of the settings. This allows you to create any number of rafter settings if you have rafters in different positions on the dormer roof surfaces.

Hip rafters

The 'Hip Rafters' sub-dialog is only active if the current dormer is also a hipped dormer. First, here as well you select a standard rafter setting that contains all information about the dimensions and connections of the hip rafters. Using the edit icon at the right edge of the field you can review and modify the settings.

With the remaining fields in this sub-dialog you again set the distribution values as already described for the dividing rafters.
