Roof Components - Rafter Adoption
The "Rafter Transfer" function allows rafters to be transferred from one roof surface to another. The target roof surface may already contain members. In that case, the program asks whether those members should be deleted or retained.
The transfer of rafters follows the following principle:
If there is a ridge line or a break line between the two roof surfaces (original and target), the rafters are simply flipped over that line.
If there is no roof line between the two roof surfaces, but the eaves of both roof surfaces are parallel to each other, there are two options for the transfer. The program asks whether the rafters should be aligned. In that case (answer "Yes") the rafters are placed onto the other roof surface by extending their axis. If alignment is not desired, the rafters are copied from the source surface so that they are transferred with their distance from the right or left end of the roof surface (depending on the selection).
Example: A gable roof with two gable dormers on the opposing main roof surfaces. When transferring from one dormer surface to the other surface of the same dormer, one must choose "align", because one dormer surface has a verge on the left and the other has a valley on the left. When transferring a dormer surface of one dormer to the corresponding dormer surface of the other dormer, one must choose "do not align", otherwise no rafter will be transferred. The roof surfaces are not aligned in a straight line.
If the roof surfaces are not parallel to each other, one can also choose whether the rafters should be transferred with their distance to the left or to the right end of the roof surface. The transfer is then performed as in the example above when "do not align" is selected.
The procedure itself is very simple: use the mouse to select the source surface and then the target surface. Depending on the situations described above, one or two prompts may appear. The rafters are then transferred with all modifications and automatically recalculated afterwards. This way, the transferred rafters are automatically adapted to any different conditions on the target surface.
