Dormer Input
Dormer - Place
The 'Dormer -- Place' function allows any number of dormers to be placed onto a roof. Multiple dormers can be placed one after another on a primary roof surface. A dormer can even be placed onto another dormer roof surface.
To place a dormer, proceed as follows:
Select with the mouse the roof surface on which the dormer is to be placed. You can click anywhere in the surface. Next select a reference line from which the dormer should be positioned. This line must run parallel to the roof surface (eaves). Typically, the house contour line or a wall edge that runs parallel to the eaves is selected here.
The program now branches into the dormer module. Further steps can be found in the dormer module manual (accessed within the dormer module) in the subsection 'New Dormer'.
Dormer - Adopt Dormer
The 'Adopt Dormer' function allows a placed dormer to be adopted (copied) onto the same or another primary roof surface. Not only the dormer surfaces but also all other elements of the dormer are adopted:
Dormer roof surfaces
Dormer roof structure
Dormer walls
Window openings in dormer walls
Dormer wall structure
Opening for main roof
First select the dormer to be adopted. To do this click in one of the dormer roof surfaces. Then select the roof surface on which the new dormer is to be placed and the reference line from which the plan position will be determined.
The program then automatically switches to the dormer positioning as used when placing a new dormer. Choose a point on the dormer that is to be positioned. Then choose the position of the dormer on the selected primary roof surface. All snap functions are available via the middle mouse button (Shift -- right mouse). Depending on whether the dormer was originally positioned 'fixed' or 'free', you can again position the dormer as 'fixed' or 'free' now. The program remembers the originally selected positioning mode.
The dormer can be placed again immediately on the same primary roof surface until you end the input with right mouse button. Afterwards exit the dormer module via the File menu.
Dormer - Modify
The 'Dormer - Modify' function allows placed dormers to be modified afterwards. To do so, select the dormer to be modified by clicking in one of the dormer surfaces. The program then switches to the dormer module. There you can modify this dormer using all available functions.
Return to the roof layout via the File menu.
Dormer - Move
The 'Dormer -- Move' function allows placed dormers to be moved afterwards. This displacement is performed automatically parallel to the main roof eave.
Select the dormer to be moved by clicking on a dormer surface. Then specify, as when placing a new dormer, the point that is to be moved. Afterwards you can specify the point to which it should be moved. All input functions including snap functions via the middle mouse button are available again.
Dormer - Dissolve
(Only for programs with roof intersection)
A dormer is an independent object and therefore handles certain tasks automatically. For example, when moving or adopting, the associated walls and timbers are carried along (see above). The dormer can be modified at any time and if the main roof is changed, the dormer adapts accordingly. These automatisms mean that a dormer cannot be manually altered arbitrarily like a normal roof layout. Since this can sometimes be very helpful, the 'Dormer -- Dissolve' function allows converting a dormer into a normal roof that intersects with the main roof. This process is irreversible. That means if a dormer has once been converted into a simple roof layout, it can no longer be edited as a dormer. (see also dormer module manual 'Dormers -- General')
To dissolve the dormer, select the corresponding dormer by clicking on a roof surface. After the confirmation prompt a normal house contour appears for this dormer. You can now modify the house contour manually, just like any other house contour.
Dormer - Delete
The 'Dormer -- Delete' function allows dormers to be removed from the primary roof surface. Simply click on a dormer surface. The dormer will then be deleted including its associated walls, openings and timbers.
