Roof Assistant - Rafters
Fixed rafters
Fixed rafters can be automatically placed on different lines of the roof. The resulting fields can then be divided using the partition rafters.
In each settings row, first specify the desired rafter configuration to be used for the respective fixed rafter. In the next column, specify where the fixed rafter should be placed on the roof surface:
Gable rafters: Gable rafters are placed on the gable lines of the roof surface. Only the gable lines located at the outermost edges of the roof surface are considered. Any small gable lines in between, for example due to roof offsets, are disregarded. Using the offset value in the last column of the dialog box, you can shift the gable rafter inward by that amount.
External wall rafters: The external wall rafter is placed on the outside of the exterior walls when exterior walls exist and a storey was selected in the placement. Otherwise it is placed on the outside of the building contour line. Using the offset in the last column of the dialog box, the external wall rafter can be shifted outward by the specified amount.
Blind rafters: The blind rafter is placed on the inside of the exterior walls when exterior walls exist and a storey was selected in the placement. Otherwise it is placed on the inside of the building contour line. Using the offset in the last column of the dialog box, the blind rafter can be shifted inward by the specified amount.
Intersection rafters: The intersection rafter is used to create intersection assemblies at hip rafters or hip intersection points. The intersection rafter is placed at each hip intersection point and can be moved away from the intersection point by the amount specified in the last column of the dialog box.
Using the checkboxes at the right end of each row, you can specify whether the respective fixed rafter should be considered during the partitioning or not. If the box is checked, that rafter will not be considered, as if it did not exist. All other fixed rafters are taken into account when partitioning the roof surface. This means that each fixed rafter defines the boundary for a field.
Tip:
If you enter manual rafters before placing a roof surface, those rafters can also be treated as fixed rafters. To do this, set the 'Replace elements' option in the placement to 'from roof wizard' or 'None'. This prevents the manually created rafters from being deleted and they will also be considered as fixed rafters.
On sloped gables you can automatically insert one or more sloped rafters. To do so, set the desired sloped-rafter option in the lower part of the dialog box. Here too you can enter an offset that pushes the sloped rafter away from the gable.
Partition rafters
There are two settings for partition rafters: one for the porch area and one for the interior area. For both areas, first select the desired rafter configuration and then set the partition rules. Unlike the other partition settings, there is no 'bars in the remaining field' field. Because the fields to be partitioned can be so different, entering a number of bars is of little use.
