Preliminary Remarks

  • Taken into account was the Living Space Ordinance 'WoFlV' of 25.11.2003

  • Taken into account was DIN 277 from February 2005. An important aspect is the elimination of the division into clear heights below and above 1.5 m. Now all height ranges must be reported separately (see chapter below).

  • The II BV (2nd Calculation Ordinance on residential calculations) no longer had to be considered. The paragraphs §42 to §44 on the determination of geometric values were replaced by reference to "BGBl. I p. 2346", i.e., the Living Space Ordinance. Therefore, its results are to be used here. It is noteworthy that the Living Space Ordinance is based on actual clear areas (between the walls) and does not provide for a percentage deduction for plaster.

As described further below, various criteria of the ordinances (Living Space Ordinance, DIN 277) are automatically taken into account or geometrically analyzed. The prerequisite is that the classification of the room itself and the use of relevant building elements (e.g., wall projections) are carried out in accordance with the ordinance and this description. Furthermore, legal, often regional regulations must be observed, which cannot be depicted here. These particularly include rules on when a room may be used as living space at all.

Example: In Hesse, for habitable rooms § 42 of the Hessian Building Code of 25.06.2002 applies: Paragraph 1: Habitable rooms must have a clear room height of at least 2.40 m, in basements and attics at least 2.20 m. In attics, this room height must be present over at least half of their floor area; room parts with a clear height up to 1.50 m are disregarded.
