Pick up layer
Every newly created drawing object (line, dimension chain, text, ...) is automatically assigned to the current layer. If a new object should belong to a specific layer that has already been used for other objects, that layer must be set as the current layer. But which layer do the already existing objects belong to? With the "Pick up layer" function you click the desired object and its layer is automatically set as the current layer.
Turn off layer
You can turn off a layer in the layer dialog box by removing the check mark in the "E" column for the respective layer. After that, all objects that belong to this layer become invisible.
The quicker way is with the "Turn off layer" function. With this function you can graphically click the objects that should become invisible. The program then removes the check mark in the "E" field of the layer dialog box for the layer to which the clicked object belongs, and immediately all objects on that layer become invisible.
Turn on layer
With the "Turn on layer" function you can graphically turn layers back on. To do this, click the objects that should become visible again. However, since the objects are invisible you actually cannot click them. Therefore, when this function is invoked the program does the following:
All visible objects become invisible.
All invisible objects become visible.
Now you can select the objects that should become visible. As soon as you select an object, all objects on the same layer become invisible, because the originally visible objects are at that moment invisible. When you finish the function, all objects that were temporarily visible become invisible again and the temporarily invisible ones become visible again.
Edit layer
With the "Edit layer" function you graphically click an object. The layer dialog box then opens and the layer to which the clicked object belongs is highlighted.
