Layer Groups
The list of layers in a position or a plan can be very long. Depending on the situation (e.g., working in the floor plan or the layout) only certain layers are required. All other layers are irrelevant at that moment and are switched off anyway. It would be useful to reduce the list of layers to only the currently important ones. The other layers still exist in the position or plan, but they are temporarily invisible. This is exactly what layer groups can organize.
In the top row of the Layer dialog box you can select a layer group. You do this either via the drop-down list or by entering the number of the layer group in the field to the left of the drop-down. The layer group contains specific layers, and only those are then displayed in the Layer dialog box. All other layers still exist but are no longer visible.
Clicking the icon to the right of the drop-down opens a dialog in which you can define layer groups. The dialog consists of two columns:
In the left column you create the desired layer groups by entering a name for each group. Each row represents one layer group.
In the right column you see the layers of the current position or the current plan. The layer list on the right does not change; it always displays all layers. Otherwise you would not be able to switch them on or off.
As soon as you have created a layer group by entering a name, you can tick the layers on the right that should belong to this layer group. A layer can belong to multiple groups!
If you click the empty row in the list of layer groups but do not enter a name and nevertheless tick layers on the right, that layer group automatically receives the layer group number as its name. If you do not want the number, overwrite it with a proper name or delete the group. To do this, remove all ticks for that group from the layer list and then delete the number in the group row.
Once you have created your layer groups, you can also save these layer groups as a setting. To do so, click the disk icon above the list of layer groups and then enter a name. This setting will then be available in other projects (plans, positions) as well. However, saving is not necessary for the functionality of layer groups within the current position or plan. There the layer groups are available anyway.
Back in the Layer dialog box you can now reduce the displayed layers by choosing a layer group. As soon as you select a layer group, you will see only the layers that are enabled for that group.
