Modify Dimension Chains

The 'Modify (Dimension Chains)' function allows you to change all settings for a dimension chain. In the upper area of the dialog box you have the same configuration options as in the dialog box for dimension styles. This makes it possible to assign an individual dimension chain a different setting than that defined in the dimension style. In the topmost drop-down list you can also directly select a different dimension style.

In the lower area of the dialog box there are settings that are only created when the dimension chain is generated. Therefore they are not related to the dimension style. The following settings can be changed there:

Layer: This shows the layer to which the selected dimension chains belong. By changing the layer, all selected dimension chains are assigned to the new layer.

Additional text: A dimension chain can receive additional text. This can be any single line of text. The position of the text line can be determined with the next field. This additional text then belongs to the dimension chain. If the dimension chain is moved, the additional text moves with it.

Position of the additional text: The additional text can be positioned at three locations of the dimension chain: 'At end' in extension of the dimension line, 'At start' in extension of the dimension line, and 'Along' the dimension line. If the additional text is placed along the dimension line, it always lies on the side of the dimension line opposite the dimension numbers.

Dimension chain was created: The program can distinguish whether a dimension chain originated from an insertion from the design program or was entered manually in the plan program. This information is used when you insert another insertion into the same view window. With the program version 'Plan program' you can set there whether the contents of the view window should be completely deleted before insertion, only the elements from an insertion, or nothing at all. This can be manipulated by changing the assignment of individual elements here.

Dimension chain type: The type of a dimension chain can be changed here. The types 'Final dimension', 'Intermediate dimension' and 'Intermediate-final dimension' are available.

Alignment of the dimension chains: This option is only available for the dimension chain types 'Final dimension' and 'Intermediate-final dimension'. For these types you can invert the zero point here (reverse it). That means the zero point moves to the other side of the dimension chain.

To modify dimension chains you can select any number of dimension chains at once. When multiple dimension chains are selected, it can quickly happen that some of the chains have different settings for one or more options. Because the program can only display one setting per option, three asterisks (***) appear in the affected field. This immediately indicates that the selected dimension chains have different settings in this field. As long as you do not change the setting in such a field, the individual dimension chains retain their respective settings. However, as soon as you change the setting, all selected dimension chains receive the new setting.
