Dimension style
Any number of dimension styles can be defined for dimensioning. These can be stored in the master data. This ensures that the same settings are automatically available for every new drawing. The dimension styles are also stored in each drawing so that the settings with which the drawing was originally created are preserved.
As soon as a drawing is opened, you see the dimension styles of that drawing. These may differ from the master data. When a new drawing is created, it automatically receives the dimension styles from the master data.
The dimension styles have the following properties:
At least one dimension style always exists.
One of the dimension styles is always the current dimension style. When new dimensions (dimension chains, angles, elevation marks) are created, the current dimension style is used automatically.
A dimension style consists of a name and various settings.
A dimension element can inherit the settings of the dimension style with which it was created. However, individual fields can also have their own settings that differ from the dimension style. If the dimension elements use the settings of a dimension style and the dimension style is changed, all dimension elements are adjusted.
The color set and the line weight can also be controlled via the layers. This results in three configuration levels for these two values (see example below).
Example based on the color set:
The following inputs were made:
Layer
Red
Dimension chain 1
Green
Dimension style
Blue
Dimension chain 2
Blue
Dimension chain 3
From layer
The layer color is changed (e.g., to yellow): Dimension chain 3 changes automatically and becomes yellow because it uses the color 'FROM LAYER'. Dimension chains 1 and 2 retain their color.
The color of the dimension style is changed (e.g., to brown): Dimension chain 2 changes automatically and becomes brown because it uses the color of the dimension style. Dimension chains 1 and 3 retain their color.
As soon as you invoke the 'Dimension Styles' function, a dialog box opens showing the list of dimension styles currently available in the opened drawing. If you want to delete a dimension style from the drawing, click that dimension style and select the entry 'No setting' from the list. Conversely, if you want to insert a dimension style from the master data into the current drawing, click an empty field and select the desired dimension style from the list that opens. Using the list entry '>> New setting' you can also define an entirely new dimension style.
A dimension style has general settings that apply to all dimension elements and settings that can be configured separately for each dimension element.
