Operating systems
Minimum: Windows 8.1 with all updates (32-bit and 64-bit); Recommended: Windows 10 64-bit (patch version 1903 or later recommended) or Windows 11 64-bit Note: Dietrich's programs do not run on Windows 8.x RT! Windows 7 is only usable to a limited extent, as it has not been supported by MS since 01/2020!
General requirements
All current service packs and recommended updates/patches should be installed on the operating systems.
Hardware requirements
Processor: Minimum: Intel or AMD Recommended: Intel Core i7 or i9 (current generation) with at least 2.8 GHz
Memory / RAM: Minimum: 16GB -- 32GB Recommended: 32GB -- 64GB For working with point clouds: 32 GB -- 64 GB
Graphics: Minimum: OpenGL-capable 3D graphics card with at least OpenGL 4.5 support Recommended: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20XX, RTX 30XX, RTX 40XX series with 4 -- 8 GB RAM or equivalent NVIDIA Quadro graphics card -- for example Quadro RTX2000
Note: Avoid on-board graphics cards with so-called "shared memory" at all costs! Therefore there should be a dedicated graphics card installed in the computer.
System drive: Minimum: 200 GB SATA (installation requires approx. 20 GB free disk space) Recommended: 512 GB / 1 TB SSD (NVMe M.2) or larger recommended
Monitor: Minimum: Full HD 1920 x 1080, 24" as monitor or Full HD 1920 x 1080 14" for laptops Recommended: 2x WQHD 2560 x 1440 27"; Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 (4K) larger than 27"
Drives: DVD-ROM drive (optional), USB 2.0/3.0 (for license dongle)
Mouse: Microsoft-compatible mouse or Logitech product family recommended (a 3-button mouse is required for many program functions; with some Microsoft drivers the middle button cannot be assigned as the middle button!)
Output devices: Windows printer/plotter with its own print processor for faster output without PC load (Hewlett-Packard plotters or Canon recommended).
An internet connection is necessary for the current status of Dietrich's master data, but is also recommended for downloading updates, etc. It is also particularly important for updating the respective Dietrich's licenses and antivirus programs.
Configuration examples
These configurations are intended only as examples. Depending on the use of the software, individual components may be more important. If you work extensively with point clouds, especially large point clouds, large memory and a powerful graphics card are as important as a fast processor.
If point clouds are not used at all or only to a small extent, 32GB and a mid-range or upper-mid-range graphics card are usually sufficient. A fast processor is equally important here.
Starting with the 8th generation of Intel processors, the number of cores for i7 CPUs increases, which is advantageous for multithreading in many areas of the software. The leap from the 12th generation with P- and E-cores also provides a noticeable performance increase.
Note:
Dietrich's software runs only on Windows. The software is not executable on ARM processors (M1, M2, M3) of Apple devices.
On Apple devices with x86 processors, it is possible to operate with Boot Camp or, with limitations, with Parallels (no OpenGL).
Use of Macs for Dietrich's software is not recommended and we cannot provide support for this.
