# Blocking Surfaces

The following settings can be made for exclusion zones:

**Width outside the components at saw or milling contours**: For all saw or milling contours, the width of the exclusion zone located outside the component can be set here. This is the area within the opening or outside the wall.

**Width inside the components at saw or milling contours**: For all saw or milling contours, the width of the exclusion zone located inside the component can be set here. This value should generally be set narrower, otherwise nail rows on sills and frames may not be generated because they lie within these exclusion zones.

**Extend exclusion zones by**: If no extension is set, exclusion zones have exactly the length of the corresponding machining operation (e.g., saw cut). Since the saw, especially at overlaps, travels slightly further, it is sensible to extend the exclusion zones slightly as well.

**Interrupt nail rows due to exclusion zones**: Nail rows can be automatically interrupted by the postprocessor when an exclusion zone is present at that location. This function is not strictly required by all machines. For example, the wall station from Weinmann independently interrupts nail rows. In that case, this setting can remain disabled.

When using exclusion zones, the nail length entered in the nail settings plays an important role. A nail will only be removed if it is long enough to intersect an exclusion zone.
