# New Dormer

The "New Dormer" function allows you to place a new dormer on a previously selected roof surface. If you selected the "Dormer -- Place" function in the model area "Roof Layout", the program will switch directly to the dormer module after choosing the main roof surface and automatically start the "New Dormer" function. However, you can call the "New Dormer" function at any time once you are in the dormer module. This enables placing a new dormer on the current main roof surface.

After selecting the function, the dialog box for choosing the dormer type opens first. The available dormer types are accompanied by images. After selecting the dormer type, the dialog box for choosing a template opens automatically. The template applies all values from the dormer saved as the template. When you have chosen a template and close the dialog box with "OK", the layout dialog of the corresponding dormer type opens automatically. The values from the dormer saved as the template are displayed and can be modified or accepted.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.dietrichs.com/dietrichs-intelligent-documentation/docs-de-en/design-program/modellbereiche/gaube/neue-gaube.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
