# Hatches

## Hatches

Using the 'hatch input' function, both hatches and filled areas can be entered.

For several settings, there is the option 'FROM LAYER'. This means that the setting is to be inherited from the layer to which the hatch belongs.

The following settings can be made for input:

**Preferred layer for automatic hatch**: When storing different plans (e.g. floor plan, rafter-purlin plan, section plan), hatches can be created automatically. For these hatches, you can define here on which layer they are to be placed. Several options are available:

> **Fixed name**: Any fixed layer can be selected, and all automatic hatches will be placed on it.
>
> **#as object lines#**: With this option, the automatic hatches are placed on the same layer as the lines of the hatched objects. Thus, the hatch of a hatched rafter (located on layer 'Rafter') would also be placed on layer 'Rafter'.
>
> **#as object lines#\_Hatch**: With this option, the automatic hatches are placed on separate layers, which are created from the layers of the hatched objects. Thus, the hatch of a hatched rafter (located on layer 'Rafter') would be placed on layer 'Rafter\_Hatch'.

### Scale-dependent hatch settings:

A hatch setting can have any number of scale-dependent settings. The large button switches from one scale setting to the next. In the first setting, the scale field is disabled and the value 0 is entered. This means that this setting is used from scale 1:0 onward. As soon as you switch to the next setting using the switch, you can enter a scale from which a different setting is to be used.

Example: 3 scale settings, then the large button shows 1/3 when you are on the first setting.

The 1st scale-dependent setting (1/3) has a fixed scale of 1:0. This setting then applies until the next scale-dependent setting.

The 2nd scale-dependent setting (2/3) has, for example, a scale of 1:20. This means that the 1st setting applies from 1:0 to 1:19.99. The 2nd setting applies from 1:20.

The 3rd scale-dependent setting (3/3) has, for example, a scale of 1:50. This means that the 2nd setting applies from 1:20 to 1:49.99. The 3rd setting applies from 1:50 to 1:\*

Depending on the scale of the plan window in which the hatch is inserted, the respective setting is used. If you subsequently change the scale, the setting also adapts to the new scale. The following options can be set depending on the scale:

**Hatch angle**: For some hatches, an angle can be entered. How the angle is measured can be seen in the help illustration. For the other hatches, this field is locked.

**Dimension on paper**: The dimension is defined differently for each hatch. This can best be seen in the help illustrations. The value is specified in the unit set in the program (see status line, bottom right).

> There is a special case for thermal insulation hatches and sealing hatches. Here, the spacing can be entered as specified in the help illustration, or automatic mode can be enabled. With the spacing "0.000", the program calculates the spacing automatically as 1/5 of the hatch height. This ensures that the hatch always fits within the hatched area and looks appropriate, regardless of the height of the hatch. If you want to influence the automatically calculated height more precisely, you can enter the divisor manually. To do so, enter the divisor as a negative number. Example: A value of -6 produces a spacing A equal to 1/6 of the hatch height. The smallest possible divisor is -4.2, since smaller values would lead to visually poor results (the circles would already overlap).

**Line thickness**: Hatches can have any line thickness. Whether the selected line thickness is displayed on screen depends on the setting under 'File -- Settings -- General'. On the output (printer, inkjet plotter), however, the line thickness is always visible.

**Color set for hatch**: The color in which the hatch or fill is to be displayed on screen and on paper. The switch at the right edge of the field opens the dialog box used to define custom color sets.

> Using the drop-down list before color selection, you can determine whether the main color of the color set or the pale fill color is to be used. For example, the color set 'red' has a strong line color (the first two colors in the color set) and a pale fill color.

**Color set for background**: Each hatch can contain a background color that lies behind the hatch lines like a fill. Here, too, either the main color (the first two colors in the color set) or the pale fill color can be selected.

**Use color of component for automatic hatch**: As with the preferred layers for automatic hatches (see above), a special setting can be made for the colors of the hatch and the fill. If this switch is enabled, the color set above for the hatch is not used for automatically generated hatches; instead, the color of the hatched component is used.

**Automatically detect islands in 'inside point'**: With the inside-point function, the contours of a hatch are automatically analyzed. Within a contour determined in this way, there may be further contours. If these are closed, they are referred to as islands. This option allows you to specify whether these islands are to be taken into account or not. If they are taken into account (detected), the hatch excludes these islands. Otherwise, the hatch runs over these islands as if they did not exist.

**Inside point**: With the input function 'Inside point', you click with the mouse in the area to be hatched or filled. The program attempts to detect the outer contour automatically. The contour found is displayed, and after confirmation the hatch or fill is created.

**Contour**: With the 'Contour' switch, any contour can be entered with the mouse. All input and snap functions are available.

## Modify Hatch

The 'Modify hatch' function can be used to change all settings of an existing hatch that were made when the hatch was created.

The central elements of the dialog are the five buttons 'Ok', 'Inside point (ignore islands)', 'Inside point (detect islands)', 'Contour', and 'Cancel'. During hatch input, the 'Ok' button is disabled.

If the function '02-02 Modify' is called, the contour of an existing hatch can also be redefined or automatically re-determined using 'Inside point (ignore islands)', 'Inside point (detect islands)', and 'Contour'. A hatch can thus be quickly adapted to changed conditions. The basic procedures are analogous to hatch input. If the dialog is closed with 'Ok', only the changes made to the hatch settings are applied, and the hatch polygon is not redefined.

New in version 24 is the ability to modify or replace individual segments or individual points of a hatch polygon. The functions 'Move line', 'Replace line', 'Move point', and 'Delete point' can be accessed via the menu under '02-03 Modify contour' or via the context menu of a hatch. In principle and application, the procedures correspond to other already known procedures for modifying polygonal chains (cf. polylines or modifying a reference polygon slab). The new functions can be applied to elements of the hatch polygon as well as to elements of the island polygons. Circles, circular segments, ellipses, and ellipse segments, as well as individual start and end points of segments of these objects, cannot be modified or adjusted.

## Delete Hatch

Hatches and color fills can be deleted graphically.
