# Roof Assistant - Rafters

## Fixed rafters

The fixed rafters can be placed automatically along various roof lines. The resulting fields can then be subdivided with dividing rafters.

In each settings row, first specify the desired rafter setting to be used for the respective fixed rafter. In the next column, specify where the fixed rafter is to be placed in the roof area:

**Verge rafters**: The verge rafters are placed along the verge lines of the roof area. However, only those verge lines that lie at the outermost edges of the roof area are taken into account. If there are also small verge lines in between, for example due to lean-to roof extensions, these are ignored. Using the distance value from the last column of the dialog box, the verge rafters can be shifted inward by this amount.

**Outer wall rafters**: The outer wall rafter is placed on the outside of external walls. Only walls that run parallel to the fall direction of the rafters are taken into account. In addition, this wall must have a minimum length of 0.5 m below the occupied roof area. An external wall that is parallel to the fall direction of the roof area, but in plan view (XoY) extends less than 0.5 m "into" the roof area, is therefore not taken into account.

Which storey is to be considered is set during placement. If the position does not contain any walls or if no storey is selected during placement, the outer wall rafters are placed on the building contour instead of on the walls. The offset is the clear distance between the outside and the rafter and shifts the outer wall rafters outward.

**Blind rafters**: The blind rafter is placed on the inside of the external walls if external walls are present and a storey has been selected during placement. The same rules for selecting the wall apply as for the outer wall rafters. If no suitable external wall exists, the rafter is placed on the inside of the building contour line. Using the offset from the last column of the dialog box, the blind rafter can be shifted inward by the specified amount.

**Junction rafters**: The junction rafter is used to create junction assemblies for hip rafters or hip junction points. The junction rafter is placed at each hip junction point and can be shifted away from the junction point by the amount specified in the last column of the dialog box.

Using the checkboxes at the right end of all rows, you can specify whether the respective fixed rafter should be taken into account during subdivision or not. If the checkmark is set, this rafter is not taken into account, as if it did not exist. All other fixed rafters are taken into account when subdividing the roof area. This means that each fixed rafter forms the boundary for a field.

### Tip:

If manual rafters are entered before placing a roof area, these rafters can also be considered as fixed rafters. To do this, set the option 'from roof assistant' or 'None' in the 'Replace components' field during placement. This ensures that the manually created rafters are not deleted and are also taken into account as fixed rafters.

On sloping verges, one or more sloping rafters can be inserted automatically. To do this, set the desired sloping rafter setting in the lower area of the dialog box. An offset can also be entered here, which shifts the sloping rafters away from the verge.

## Dividing rafters

There are two settings for the dividing rafters. One is for the dividing rafters in the eaves overhang area and one for the internal area. For both areas, first select the desired rafter setting and then define the subdivision rules. Unlike the other subdivision settings, there is no 'Bars in residual field' field. Since the fields to be subdivided can be very different, specifying a bar count is of limited usefulness.
